Welcome to DEVS-Fire API
The DEVS-Fire API lets you programmatically run wildfire spread simulations using the DEVS formalism, built by the SIMS Lab at Georgia State University. The API supports custom terrain data, dynamic ignition, wind conditions, and real-time step-by-step simulation control.

All endpoints are relative to:
https://firesim.cs.gsu.edu/apiEvery request uses POST. Query parameters are passed in the URL.
Wind direction convention
Wind direction
Wind direction is measured in degrees where south = 0° and values increase clockwise — west = 90°, north = 180°, east = 270°.
How it works
Every simulation follows the same lifecycle:
Connect — Call /connectToServer to create a session and receive a userToken.
Configure — Set up your simulation: cell resolution, map location, wind conditions, ignition points, and optionally upload custom fuel/slope/aspect maps.
Run — Call /runSimulation (all at once) or /continueSimulation (step-by-step) to execute the simulation.
Query — Read back results: perimeter cells, burned area, cell states, wind data, and more.
Use setMultiParameters to combine configuration into a single call — set location, wind, cell size, and ignition all at once.
Key Features
Session-based
Each simulation gets its own userToken. Multiple simulations can run independently in parallel.
Custom terrain
Upload your own fuel, slope, and aspect maps as .txt files, or use built-in online data by setting a lat/lng.
Dynamic ignition
Simulate burn teams traveling along paths — simultaneous teams, sequential paths, spot or continuous modes.
Step-by-step control
Advance the simulation in increments to query state or make changes between steps.
